29 year old Ibrahim Tijani has killed his neighbor Bashorun Okanla for complaining about generator fumes coming out from his generator. The unfortunate incident took place in Okun Ajah, Ogombo area of Lagos State.
Punch Metro learnt that the suspect who hails from Ibadan Oyo State and the deceased lived in an uncompleted building. The deceased married with kids was said to have cautioned Tijani and then an argument ensued between the two men. The argument turned into a fight and then the suspect picked up a cutlass from his room and cut the victim's hand and legs, he was rushed to the hospital where he died.
A source who pleaded anonymity said the Police from Ogombo division recovered the cutlas the suspect used in committing the crime he said
"It was Friday 8th Feb around 11am, The suspect and the deceased were neighbors. They both lived in an uncompleted building which is owned by a Nigerian based in the USA. Tijani turned on his generator and the fumes went into Okanla's room who then came out and asked him to remove the generator from the place but he refused and that was when they began fighting and dragged each other into the bush. Tijani then picked up a sharp cutlass and cut the deceased in the hands and legs and ran away"
Punch Metro learnt that the suspect ran to the Ogombo Police station to evade the wrath of the residents. They were said to have followed him there and told the police what had happened which led to his arrest.
Tijani when interrogated,by the police confessed to the crime, he said "I turned on my generator and when Baba Ade (Okanla) asked me to turn it off, i refused and then he used a stick to hit me and we started fighting. A neighbor came to separate us but Baba Ade still went and destroyed my generator. I became angry and went inside my room, picked up my cutlass and used it on him"
The Police Public Relation Officer Kenneth Nwosu said the Police had started investigations into the case.
