APC Senators say FG is planing to sack Jega next week

APC Senators say that the Federal government and the PDP is planning to sack INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega by mandating him through a directive from the Head of Service to proceed on pre-retirement leave as from next week. Prof Jega is to retire in June.

At a press briefing after yesterday's plenary session, the spokesperson of the APC senators, Senator George Akume said information reaching them from reliable sources indicated that Jega will be served a letter next week asking him to go on terminal leave. They say it's illegal & unconstitutional

"We have received information from very very informed source, a very credible source that next week the Chairman of INEC would be served a letter by the office of the head of civil service directing him to proceed on terminal leave. We oppose the removal because it is criminal, it is illegal. It is unconstitutional" he said

The APC Senators also stated that they are opposed to the nomination of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro for a ministerial appointment.

"All of us we have agreed that we are going to oppose that. The three senators from Lagos state have written a letter to the president saying they are opposed to him based on these facts" Senator Babafemi Ojudu said

Man arrested in Abia State for selling his baby for N300k

George Maduabuchi pictured above has been arrested  for allegedly selling his 14 month old son for N300,000 to a herbalist. According to a report by Punch, George, a native of Owerrinta in the Isiala-Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State had connived with his accomplice, one Obinna Erondu who is now on the run, to sell his own child

Narrating how her son was allegedly sold by her husband, Ebere, the pregnant wife of George said after her child had developed cough, her husband had asked to take him out to get some medicine only for him to return without the boy. When she asked him where their son was, he couldn't give her a good explanation. She said she quickly raised an alarm which attracted their neighbors who called the police

"When I demanded explanations on the whereabouts of our son, he could not offer any convincing answer.” she said

Confirming her statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joshak Habila said; "Luck ran out on Maduabuchi when the wife alerted the police on his questionable role when the baby fell ill and he took him out and did not return with him.”.

When interrogated, the suspect denied selling his son but says he took him to a herbalist who offered to cure him and also gave him some money

"The herbalist gave me money and told me that he could not heal the baby. I therefore left the baby in the herbalist’s home.”he said

The police is still investigating the matter

President Jonathan's surprise visit to Mubi and Baga

President Johnathan in company of some service chiefs and the National Security Adviser, Dasuki , visited Mubi and Vintim towns in Adamawa State on Thursday 26th Feb. Both towns were recaptured from Boko Haram by Troops.

The president arrived Yobe International Airport yesterday morning at about 10:45am and from there went to see the Emir of Mubi and his people. He also met with the troops stationed in the area. Woman gives birth to baby without arms in Ogun State, husband runs away

Mrs Taiwo Sheriffdeen gave birth to a baby boy without arms in Ifo LGA of Ogun state on Tuesday February 24th. According to report by Punch, the woman gave birth to the baby, her first child, at Majotal Hospital, a private hospital in the Ilogbo area of Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking on the birth of her deformed baby, the mother said her husband, Mudashiru Sheriffdeen, ran away after he was told that their child was deformed at birth (the baby pictured above).

“This is my first child and I do not know why I gave birth to this kind of a baby. Immediately my husband was informed that his son had deformity, he ran away and had not come to see me. He is a commercial bus driver, and we had been married now for almost two years before God decided to answer our prayers.
When I was pregnant, we took every steps that the doctor directed us to take, but we did not know why we came about this calamity" she said.

According to the woman, her husband and the landlord of the place where she lives have asked her not to bring the child home. She also pleaded with the government to come and help her by adopting her baby

“I have been warned by both my husband and our landlord not to bring the child home. The hospital management has asked us to leave the hospital. Now, this child and I have nowhere to go, I don’t need this baby. I want government to adopt him.” she said

Adultery is now legal in South Korea...

The South Korean Constitutional Court in its plenary session yesterday February 25th annulled the Nation's criminal anti-adultry law which forbids all act of adultery and punishes violators with two years imprisonment, saying it infringed upon personal freedom


The presiding justice, Park Han-Chul while striking out the law said even though the act of adultery is bad, the country had no power in interfering in peoples private lives

“Even if adultery should be condemned as immoral, state power should not intervene in individuals’ private lives,” said presiding justice Park Han-Chul.

In the last six years, close to 5,500 people have been formerly arraigned on adultery charges including nearly 900 in 2014. In 2004, 216 people were jailed for adultery but the numbers dropped
to 42 in 2008 and from 2008 till date, only 22 people had been sentenced to jail.

Villagers burnt suspected Armed Robber to death in Benue

 Trouble started in a border village of Konshisha and Oju local government areas of Benue State when a suspected criminal, who was allegedly  among the armed robbers that attacked a bank, was burnt to death.Leadership ng reports

Recall that suspected gunmen, armed with dangerous weapons and ammunition, numbering about 20, had, weekend, raided the First Bank branch in Vandeikya LGA of the state, carting away huge sums of money, and killed several others in the process.

The dare devil robbers had a gun battle with the police in the area while trying to escape. The vehicle conveying the robbers, however, crash landed and somersaulted into the bush.
It was gathered that many of the robbers fled with bullet wounds and unfortunately for one of them, was apprehended by the villagers, and instantly set ablaze.

A villager who simply gave his name as Ejum told newsmen yesterday that, “One of the robbers who was trying to escape while the gun battle with the police was ongoing fell into the hands of the villagers and was given juggle justice”.

According to Ejum, the arrested culprit had confessed to being a member of the robbery gang and that the revelation angered the locals who could not wait for police intervention as they hung tyre on his neck and set it on fire.
